Remote IT support works — until the day it doesn’t.
Auckland providers now pitch “remote-first” IT to Northland businesses. We do remote support all day too — most fixes don’t need a van. But there’s a difference between remote-first and actually being here. Here it is.

When remote works fine
Let’s be fair. For password resets, software issues, licence changes & monitoring, remote is faster than a site visit — that’s how we deliver most support too, from Whangārei. If your business is small, cloud-only & rarely touches hardware, a remote-only provider can serve you well. That’s the honest version.
The four moments remote-first falls short
1. When hardware fails.
A dead switch, a failed server, a workshop PC that won’t start — no one fixes those down a wire. Ask any remote-first provider how fast someone can physically be at your site. For us, on-site is routine, not a project — we’re in Whangārei, & most of Northland is an hour or two from our door, not a flight & a rental car away.
2. When downtime is money.
Marine, trades, construction, healthcare — if the crew is standing around, you’re paying by the minute. “We’ll arrange an on-site visit” is a sentence that costs you a day.
3. When you’re being onboarded — or leaving.
Migrations, new offices, network builds: this is exactly the work that gets “planned properly” from a distance. It’s also the work where being able to walk the site — count the ports, see the comms cabinet — saves days of back-&-forth.
4. When trust is the product.
You’ll hand this company the keys to everything. Meeting them, at your site or ours, is basic diligence — & you can’t do it through a ticket portal.
The best of both
You shouldn’t have to pick between local & modern. IT Live runs the same tooling the big remote providers use: 24/7 monitoring across 1,100+ devices group-wide (300+ of them in Northland), cloud management, our own datacentre space in Auckland, & a certified security practice — SMB1001 Gold, Microsoft Solutions Partner for Security. The difference is simple — our team lives here. Level 1, 9 Reyburn Street, Whangārei.
City-grade IT, from people who are actually here.

Frequently asked questions
Is remote IT support good enough for my business?
For most day-to-day issues — password resets, software, licences, monitoring — remote is faster than waiting for a van, and it’s how we deliver most support too. The gap is the physical stuff: hardware failures, network cabling, new sites. That’s when being here matters.
When do you actually need an on-site technician?
Dead hardware, network and cabling work, office moves and fit-outs, and anything where a person needs to be sat with. If your provider can’t get someone to you quickly for those, ‘remote-first’ becomes ‘remote-only’ at the worst possible moment.
Is IT Live based in Northland?
Yes — we have a Whangārei team on Reyburn Street covering Northland and the Far North, backed by teams across New Zealand. Local when you need hands on it, remote when you don’t.
