Your email works. That’s not the question.

Plenty of Northland businesses still run on hosted Exchange servers, & to be fair — they run. The question is what you’re not getting: Teams, SharePoint, Copilot, modern security & every improvement Microsoft has shipped since. You’re paying cloud prices for 2015 technology.

What you’re missing (not what’s broken)

Nothing against your current setup — hosted Exchange was the right call when it was made. But Microsoft 365 is much more than email somewhere else: Teams calling & meetings, files that follow you, Copilot (AI — drafted replies, meeting notes, summaries) & security built for how attacks work now — MFA everywhere (multi-factor authentication, the code on your phone), sign-in rules that block logins from places you’d never trade with, & 24/7 monitoring. None of that bolts onto an Exchange server.

“But our data stays local” — fair question

Data sovereignty matters. Two honest answers. First: for new NZ tenants, Microsoft now stores the core of Microsoft 365 — your email, files & Teams — in its New Zealand datacentre region by default (since December 2024). Want that guaranteed in writing, or curious where the rest sits? Ask us — we’ll show you exactly where your data would live before you move anything. Second: for workloads that genuinely belong on a server, we run our own datacentre in an Auckland colocation facility. We’ll put each workload where it belongs — not where our infrastructure needs it to be.

The move, without drama

Mailboxes usually migrate over a weekend. Outlook looks the same on Monday — same email address, same history. We run both systems side by side during cutover, & we’re in Whangārei if anything needs hands-on. Fixed quote, tested rollback, the same certified process we run for the 1,100+ devices the IT Live Group already manages — 300+ of them in Northland.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between hosted Exchange and Microsoft 365?

Hosted Exchange is email only. Microsoft 365 is email plus Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Copilot and modern security — for a similar cost. You’re likely paying cloud prices already for a fraction of the platform.

Is hosted Exchange being discontinued?

Standalone hosted Exchange is legacy technology that’s steadily being retired across the industry. Microsoft’s investment goes into Microsoft 365. Moving now is a planned migration; waiting risks a forced one.

How much does it cost to move to Microsoft 365?

Licensing is per user per month, and you may already be paying comparable money for hosted Exchange. Book a free assessment and we’ll map your current spend against what you’d move to.
